Why one day won’t derail your progress and why it’s okay to enjoy it.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. We have a big meal with my family. My mom cooks turkey stuffed with oyster dressing. We only get to have that on THANKSGIVING! Marshmallows on sweet potatos? Never, except for Thanksgiving. Five rolls with butter? Nope, just Thanksgiving. And then there’s pie. Or PIES, rather, because we all have our preferences and, no, they’re not the same.
There’s something special about a day centered around food, and family; connection, and slowing down. It’s one of the few days each year when we let ourselves breathe a little. We don’t rush from one thing to the next. We don’t micromanage our routines. We just enjoy.
And yes, we eat things we don’t eat the rest of the year.
At CrossFit Reincarnation, we talk a lot about long-term health, consistency, habits, and showing up for yourself. But we also talk about kindness, abundance, and living a full, meaningful life. That means understanding that food isn’t the enemy, and neither is a holiday.
Here’s the truth you might need to hear today:
If you overeat this Thanksgiving…
If you go back for seconds…
If you enjoy the dessert table more than usual…
If you’re less active than normal…
You’re still awesome. You’re still on track. You’re still someone who cares about their health. And one day will not undo everything you’ve worked for.
Your progress isn’t fragile.
Your habits don’t disappear because you had mashed potatoes and pie.
Your body doesn’t forget how strong you are.
Your goals don’t fall apart because you celebrated with your family.
Let Thanksgiving be what it’s meant to be.
A pause.
A breath.
A moment of joy.
A reminder that you’re human, and that’s a good thing.
There’s no need to “make up for it” or punish yourself afterward. You don’t have to earn your food. You’re not a dog. You don’t have to feel guilty for enjoying the holiday. You don’t have to spiral into negative self-talk.
Instead, take the pressure off. Enjoy the meal. Be present with your people. Laugh. Rest. Let the day fill your cup so you can start fresh when you’re ready.
Then, when the holiday is over… just come back.
Come back to the gym.
Come back to your healthy meals.
Come back to your habits.
Come back to yourself.
And we’ll be right here for you because your journey is bigger than one holiday.
From our CrossFit Reincarnation family to yours,
Have a warm, joy-filled, delicious Thanksgiving.
You deserve every bit of it.
